The Struggle is Real

It is possible this scarf is cursed.

I spent several hours untangling the yarn barf. Probably a total of 5 or 6. I was untangling until my eyes crossed and I had a crick in my neck.

My strategy was to wind the yarn from both sides so when one set of knots got to be too annoying I could switch over and work on the other side. Then, suddenly, the two balls were attached to each other and no longer tangled and there was still a mess of tangled yarn in front of me. Apparently, when I was snipping the yarn holding everything together I cut the yarn apart. Also, when I was untangling there was a weak spot in the yarn that broke. So, somehow, I ended up with three balls of yarn from one skein.

But it’s DONE. Which means the scarf should be smooth sailing from here on out right?

WRONG.

I cast on using the knitted cast on, which I have never used before and then knit the first row. The cast on row looked awful, it was super loose and loopy and I hated it. So I ripped it back and cast back on with the long-tail cast on, my standard go to. I then knit to the start of the pattern repeats, got to the end of that row and my count was off so I had to tink it back and start again. Then I got through the first pattern repeat and decided I didn’t like the drape of the fabric and ripped back again before going up a needle size and casting back on.

I’ve now gone through a couple pattern repeats and I’m much happier but I’m still annoyed at the whole beginning of this project. This scarf better be beautiful at the end.

Ok, I’ll admit it…the pattern is knitting up beautifully. Now that I’m doing my SSKs correctly, the lace pattern is looking like it should and the yarn is lovely. It held up super well to all the manhandling of me trying to untangle it. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing from this point on but you’ll excuse me if I have to knock on some wood, won’t you?
