Some Aquisitions

I bought some new yarn.

Oh, and my loom came, no big deal.

EXCEPT IT IS A HUGE DEAL!!

Wait. Did I even mention that I bought a loom? *Quickly reads back over blog posts and realizes that no, I haven’t mentioned it*

Back in July, I got a bit of cash for my birthday and was trying to decide what to get with it. Should I get a new lens for my camera? Should I buy more yarn? How about fabric or video games? After watching a few youtube videos about it - I talked myself into buying a loom. It’s 2020 and life is a nightmare, may as well try a new yarn hobby, right?

To try and be a good consumer, I ordered a 15” Schacht Cricket Loom from a local store thinking they had it in stock. This was incorrect, it had to be ordered from Schacht and now, about 6 weeks later, it has been delivered!

I put it together and have done a couple of test weaves. I’m feeling more comfortable with the process so I warped up an actual project last night. I grabbed some Blue Moon Fiber Arts yarn I’ve had for years that I could never figure out what to do with it. It was a set of mill ends that had two different colors in two separate hanks all wrapped up in one package. I figured it might work for a woven scarf!

So far, I’m really enjoying the process. Clearly, I’m still VERY new at this process. I think the purple and red colors look like purple and red skittles so I’ve been referring to it as my Skittles Scarf.

I am now realizing that I seem to go in phases with colors - the red yarn comes across far more maroon in person and the other scarf I’m working on is also maroon. Hmmm.

LUCKILY, I also bought some yarn and that came a few days ago. It is definitely not maroon.

Ok, ok, it’s still red. In my defense, I ordered a mystery skein and that’s what I got. So. Lay off.

However, I also got this lovely yarn as well.

This beauty is destined to become a hat. Because I love Halloween themed accessories. Also, I enjoy a good pun name so it’s a win/win.

While I was checking out Oink Pigments’ website, I saw they have a yarn of the month club so I signed up for that as well. I 100% blame the Knitmore Girls podcast for all of this since they’ve been talking about Oink Pigments for months now.

Not sponsored or anything, I just gave them a try. Spent my own money and everything. So far, the yarn is super yummy but I’ll have a better review once I actually use it.
