I think I have a case of startitis.
And by 'think' I mean I absolutely do.
Remember the other day that I was bummed there wasn’t more color in my knitting and that it made for a boring front page of the site? After posting that, I realized I had a super colorful project on the needles that I had set aside and forgotten about despite starting it at the same time as the Dudester scarf.
May I present my barely begun, ZickZack Scarf by Christy Kamm (Ravelry link).
I fully love how the scarf is knitting up in a very Halloween color scheme. It was not what I would have predicted when I wound up these two balls of yarn. I will say, I’m not in love with how my increases and decreases are looking. I’m hoping it will block a bit neater…maybe I should test that to be sure before I put a ton more time and effort into this project.
Also, not to toot my own horn (doo doo doo DOOOOOO) but I do like how my photography is improving - even with just using my cell phone. I know I should pull out the real camera but then that involves a tripod which is too tall for my coffee table. That in turn means clearing off some other surface in the apartment to set everything up for about 10 minutes just to break it all back down. Maybe on the craft table in the bedroom. We’ll see.
Like a lot of knitters, I am a big fan of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Hell, I’m pretty sure, I first heard the term ‘startitis” from her.
Honestly, nothing inspires a case of startitis quite like her blog. She’s so stinking good at knitting. And takes great photos. And writes so well. Basically I want to be her when I grow up (I can still say this even though I’m 35…right?).
She recently launched a Patreon which I decided to subscribe to. I figure she’s given me years of entertainment, I can give a bit back. Plus, she’s doing an in depth (6 videos - many of which are over an hour long!) sock class and I’d really like to up my sock game. I think I always make my socks too short or too tight or something that’s not quite right with them.
All that is to say, I am currently swatching for a pair of socks out of this yarn.
I’d post a picture of the swatch but it’s approximately 3 rows at this point. Also, please don’t ask me how many times I’ve restarted this swatch. I don’t want to talk about it.
